Get rhythm when you get the blues get rhythm

The Roar gotta get rhythm. It was a Johnny Cash night. Thursday night. Down to 10,040. At lang park you seep under 15,000 and it only sounds like 500 there. Except for the 20 visitors. Well they sound like 500 too.

Get rhythm. Now we must win 4 out-of-five to make the finals. Frank says it is possible.

You get 20 players in a squad. 15% were sick or injured, including Matt McKay who ate something bad last night and lost a lot of weight. 15% were foreign and sitting in the stands. That's 30% of our squad and 50% of our reputation. Too many players don't seem to be getting much game time. Can't really expect players who have sat out, or sat on the bench, to win the game for you. That's at least another 15%.

It is telling that the Roar got no yellow cards tonight. Usually you'd expect a team losing like that to all have their hands up to get booked.

They just gave up after a while. Didn't even try to get back in the game (except Vidosic). Really disappointing. Thought we missed Dilevski and Ognenovski lots. Shows that we don't have as much depth in the squad as originally thought.

So much of what should be talent ... just sitting in the stand Weasel.

Motivation could do so much...

Bit sad when the team has to apolagise to the fans for their performance!!

Jeccy, at least Packer apologised - slightly ironic given that Packer was one of the players who kept fighting 'till the end. Surely Chad should have done that job.

Meanwhile, Farina has resorted to praising the performance of Newcastle, saying how they can win the season. It might be correct, but it's an obvious and disingenious way to deemphasise the woeful performance of the Roar.

The signs are not good.

John, I like the music title theme. I've already used it somewhere in a comment, but can I suggest, "Stand by Your Man" for Roar supporters?

Hamish - Frank also gave the press the quote that the team's performance was 'crap'. Courier-Mail ran it as a headline. I think this shows a less than thoughtful performance on his part. He selected the team and decided to chance an ill and under weight Matt.

There is a lot of incentive to keep up media interest. The is a lot of 'noise' out there and if you don't keep your message up, people forget to go to the next game or buy the next season ticket. CM runs around 10 pages on the cricket tests per day even between tests and this is a 'one-sided' series.

It will be picked up that paper readers like Packer and that Chad doesn't get full games. So it probably had to be Andrew. He is smart anyway. But what could he say? If you read the sites of teams that lose - this is what the media unit drafts. The fans know you lost. And in our case the coach said the performance was 'crap' - so what other direction is there? (A few weeks before they had Wedau running himself down saying he'd try harder - in my view the wrong answer.

I had a discussion with Massimo on Thursday night and he said I could use this photo of him. Then I thought of what he and Matt working together bring to the team that other times don't have - rhythm. So it worked for me on that level. Then I picked up the song 'Get Rhythm' from the film about Johnny Cash - who I didn't like until I saw the film. The song is about what he learned from people enjoying hard - low paid work. It is a great song, that lifts you up when you are feeling down. If I was the coach, and someone in the crowd pointed out that neither hamish or I are, I would be talking them up in the media - what I learnt, what they learnt (give Packer something upbeat to say), then I'd get in the players ears, put get rhythm on their iPods.

That's the spirit John, a plan for the future, sans spin. Hamish, your spiritual journey starts now, but then you already knew that, didnt you....

Indeed Wayne.

I think that's why I liked Bleiberg so much - he was either positive or never really let you know what he was thinking. And in a competitive situation, I don't think you can let others know that your suffering. Watch some old races of Linford Christie, and I think you'll get what I mean...

(Haha, I've left the track and field, but I can't get the T&F out of me!)

Every professional club has a media strategy. I understand that they will be operating under some sought of what you can say - what you can't say guidelines from FFA. At the same time, as we did see from Miron sometimes even people who have had media training just let it all out. But then again the media people would largely work with the press and moderate this. This means to me that the Roar club or Frank wanted Andrew's message to get out. I bit like me waking up to a part of the ABC radio news saying that Frank had told Zhang to get fit or he won't play again. Sometimes they say even bad things to keep the airspace happening - other times they are spinnng the fans - ie can't play Zhang so this is our best team available. But what about Reinaldo?
